Bones of the Dead




3 cups flour
2 lbs. powdered sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
4 eggs
1 tsp anise oil
water as needed


  1. Sift together flour, powdered sugar, baking powder and cinnamon.
  2. Slightly beat the eggs. Add eggs and anise oil to the dry ingredients.
  3. Mix thoroughly, adding a little water, if necessary, to make a very stiff dough.
  4. Roll dough out onto floured board. Form into 1-inch diameter rolls. Cut into 2-inch logs.
  5. Leave them uncovered on a board overnight.
  6. The next morning, place them on a floured cookie sheet, 12 at a time.
  7. Bake at 325° for 12 minutes.
  8. Removed from pan at once to cool on a cloth.
