Use a ruler to mark the outer edge of the frame. The width of your frame is determined by the size of your stitchery. Usually, the smaller the stitchery, the narrower the frame. Use your own judgement to determine a pleasing balance of frame to stitchery. Then add on an extra 1/4" for a seam allowance.
Since my stitchery was small, I decided to have a 1" frame. I measured out 1" from the small oval to mark the 1/4" seam allowance line. Then I measured out another 1/4" from the seam allowance line to trace the cutting line.
This photo shows the 1/4" seam allowance line almost complete. The Cutting Line is yet to be drawn.
