| This tote bag features a finished piece of stitchery used as a pocket and applied to the front of a tote bag.
In this example, I used an old crushed velvet bedspread as the fabric for the tote bag. Because I re-used a finished item, some of the sewing was already done for me (the top hem). You don't need to follow my lead on this point. Feel free to use a new piece of fabric and hem it at the appropriate step.

Supplies:
- Tote fabric, approx. 1/2 yard
- Sample tote bag (optional)
- Rulers
- Tailor's chalk or marking tool
- Scissors or pinking shears
- Completed stitchery
- Iron and water
- Lining fabric, the same size as your stitchery
- Fusible interfacing — light or medium weight
- Point turner, knitting needle or skewer
- Sewing machine
- Thread to match the fabric
- Straight pins
- Safety pin
