Lacing the fabric
Pulling the two thread ends, ease the edges of the fabric over the edges of the cardboard (like making a fabric yo-yo). Check to make sure your design is still centered on the front.

Make sure the edges are as smooth as possible as they fold around the cardboard. Then tie the thread ends together.

Often, attaching the fabric to the cardboard this way will suffice. Since I didn't have much fabric to work with on the stitched piece, I did a lot of extra lacing to make sure my stitched fabric was smooth around the edges and held firmly in place.
