Giraffe Shotput | ||||||||||||||||

You use it when you go to stitch-ins, classes, EGA meetings, etc. You place your in-progress piece on the edge of the table in its Q-Snap, frame or hoop. Then you place the shotput on the top edge of the frame. The major part of your frame hangs off the side of the table, allowing you to stitch two-handed (one on top, one on the bottom). It's an easy, portable substitute to use when you don't want to lug around your floor stand or lap stand. The chart I used is a giraffe from the March 1998 edition of The Stitchery Magazine. It must be designed by one of their staff designers, because there is no name on the chart. The giraffe is one animal in a set of four, the others being a wolf, a tiger and a polar bear. In the magazine they are shown framed in Sudberry House coasters. I chose to stitch it on 14 count black aida. There were only a few partial stitches, so it was not too much of a problem. I put a small border on it. Because of the way it's finished, the border helps it look more complete .... rather than like I just forgot to finish stitching the horns and ears! I then bought a remnant of poly/cotton fabric to make the back of the pillow and the inner lining (that holds the shot). If you'd like to learn more about stitching on dark fabrics, read my Needlework 101 page called Stitching on Black Ground Cloth.
