Blackwork Scissors Fob

Blackwork Scissors Fob
This was another EGA project. For one of our monthly programs we had an introduction to blackwork for those that were unable to take the correspondence course. We were given a small piece of fabric and a couple different designs to try, and could use them in any way we wished.

We were also given a couple sets covered button kits — the metal parts that make up the buttons. After the stitching was done, I cut out the circles of fabric, fit it over the button form, and snapped the back into place. Because aida is such thick fabric, it took some effort to smooth the fabric over the form and get it to stay in place.

After the two buttons are covered, they are put together back to back, and glued together. I then made some twisted cording and glued it into place. I used the ends of the cord to make a coordinating tassle. It was then tied onto the handle of the scissors.

There is very little documentation on the charts we were given. No name on the chart except the shop from which it came (which appears to be closed). Copyright is 1979.

If you'd like to learn more about this technique, read my Needlework 101 page called Blackwork Basics.
