Lin's Bookmark
I stitched this bookmark for one of my online friends, Lin. She and I had become friends as we chatted privately online over the previous year. She was going through a rough time in her life. Since I'd had a similar experience ten years earlier, I was able to be her listening ear and voice of hope. I'd found the perfect book to send to Lin, so added this bookmark to the gift.

The chart for this bookmark was originally intended to be stitched on the ends of a bolster pillow. But after you stitch a while, you tend to see charts in new ways, and adapt them to current needs.

When I first began this piece I lost my place and accidentally flipped the stitched piece 180 degrees. I didn't realize my mistake until more than half the chart was stitched. I made it work, but the finished piece came awfully close to the edge of the fabric. If you look carefully, you can see that the lace covers more fabric on one side than it does on the other side.

"Cameo! I never would have noticed it if you hadn't pointed it out!"

Well, that may be true, but I simply point out the errors I made along the way to show that with each piece you stitch can learn something new.
