Waste Canvas Jack-O-Lantern

Jack-o-lantern Waste Canvas on T-shirt
This project was my first attempt at using waste canvas. I stitched the design on an old black t-shirt that became spotted with brown splotches from bleach. I adapted a chart designed by Virginia Douglas. I needed to add the purple background to the pumpkin so that the black hat would show up against the black t-shirt. Then I needed to add the green and orange border to cover up a big spot on the shirt. (Fashion cosmetic surgery!)

The original chart was available to download free from the Douglas Designs website in October, 1996.

If you'd like to learn more about working with waste canvas, read my page in Needlework 101 entitled Working with Waste Canvas.
