Serenity Prayer

Serenity Prayer
For as long as I can remember, the Serenity Prayer has been a favorite of my mother's. I fell in love with this chart the moment I saw it, and knew I just had to stitch it for Mom. The beauty of the forest looks much like the part of the country that I live in, with the tall pines and beautiful lupines.

As I was working on this piece, my mom seemed to get sicker and sicker. After fighting cancer twice in her life, once with radiation therapy to her abdomen, her body was giving out. Her kidneys were failing and she found out she needed to go on dialysis. The stitching of the Serenity Prayer became my prayers for her—each stitch another little prayer.

After my mom died in December 1997, this piece of stitchery came back to me. It now hangs in the front hallway in my home.
