The Internet Memorial Quilt (IMQ) for Oklahoma City was a joint project of the rec.crafts.textiles.needlework and rec.crafts.textiles.quilting newsgroups. It was created in memory of all those that lost their lives in the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995. The idea was that much good happens on the internet besides it just being a place to go find the recipe for making a bomb! The quilt was presented to Oklahoma City on September 19, 1995.
I was very new to rctn when the bombing took place. But I was very glad to be able to take part in this world-wide effort to show compassion to the people of Oklahoma City. I chose a simple heart pattern, because my heart was going out to those that had experienced the loss. Each of us was asked to stitch a square on a specific size block with a neutral-colored background. This 11 cout aida was the only neutral in my stash at the time, so that's why I chose such a huge stitch count. The chart was also in my stash.
