My oldest daughter, Jeanne, is the cat-lover in the family. Her bedroom walls are covered with about twenty cat posters! For years, she begged us for a cat to call her own. But we had to wait until we were out of rented space to get one for her. Once we had our own home, we then had to wait until our youngest daughter was old enough to walk and fend off an attack cat! In the mean time, Jeanne had her "perfect cat" pictured in her mind-a fluffy long-haired white Persian cat.
To appease Jeanne a little and help the wait seem a bit shorter, I stitched this Stoney Creek design for her. This was my first attempt at using an eavenweave. I chose Lugana. Once I figured out how to start stitching by the vertical thread, and realized that the holes you stitch in are slightly larger than the holes you skip, I quickly fell in love with the fabric. But, being my first piece on an evenweave, I sort of got "lost" in the fur by the cat's ear, and ... well ... if you look real close, you'll notice I'm off by one thread!
It's all part of the learning process!
If you'd like to learn a little more about evenweaves, read my Needlework 101page called Evenweaves on the subject.
