Spiral Bookmark

This spiral design was adapted from a border pattern. This was an online freebie, but unfortunately I did not note the name of the website I found it. (It's been in my stash for a while). If it looks familiar, can someone please let me know who the designer is so I can give proper credit?

I decided to use up some stray purple/white variegated floss on this. Unfortunately, as I started stitching it, I noticed that the white of the floss was disappearing into the white of the fabric.

At that point, I decided to use a second variegated purple that went from a medium purple to dark purple for the second "strand" of the spiral. Then I used a plain purple for the center.

The chart did not call for any backstitching, but that white floss was still causing a visual problem. So I decided to backstitch around all parts of the spiral. That allowed the design to "pop" and I'm much more satisfied with the result.

I may need to stitch this design again in different colors to see if I can achieve the original effect I was going for.

I'll be donating this bookmark to charity as my November obligation. Only one more bookmark to go for the year!
