Preemie Hats |
|
My charity stiching group has expanded from doing just cross-stitch items. We now also knit and crochet hats for premature babies. The hats are donated to neo-natal wards in various hospitals around the country. One of the gals in the group shared this crochet pattern with me. I started by stitching the band. Then I stitched the crown portion, decreasing every two rows. You finish it off by sewing the back seam, and adding a ribbon. These little hats are fun and they stitch up amazingly quickly — in less than two hours (and that's while watching TV at the same time!) The first was such a pleasure to stitch that I just kept going. I found various colors of ribbon in my stash. Now my teenage daughter wants to learn to crochet these hats. She'd like to use her community service hours as crochet time. This allows her to help others, but keeps her schedule extremely flexible. I'm all for encouraging that kind of giving to others. We may expand our crochet hat stitching to making hats for chemo kids, too.
