I'm so pleased to have completed this piece. This is one for my UFO, WISP and PILL Challenge. This happens to be a UnFinished Object that I first started in October 2004 on United Nations Day.
The chart calls for fibers by Weeks Dye Works and has some DMC equivalents. I don't have any Weeks stash, so started stitching it with DMC.
As you can see below, the DMC colors look pretty harsh. It changed the feel of the piece quite a bit, so I put the piece aside trying to figure out if I wanted to finish it, or if I wanted to start over.
I finally decided to pull out the stitching I had done and start over. I still don't have Weeks fibers in my stash, so I picked some nice substitutes from Gentle Art Sampler Threads.
Here are the substitutions I made:
| Weeks |
DMC |
GAST |
| Onyx |
310 |
Black Crow |
| Kentucky Blue |
924 |
Presidential Blue |
| Sea Foam |
503 |
Sea Spray |
| Rum Raisin |
300 |
Cherry Bark |
| Oak |
422 |
Ohio Lemon Pie |
| Tin Roof |
648 |
Slate |
| Brick |
221 |
Cherry Wine |
| Loden |
3012 |
Grasshopper |
I did alter the chart a little bit. I simplified it by leaving out a few elements that I thought looked "junky." So there is no flag and I put the date on in a way that is more appealing to me. I also changed out some of the coloration on one of the hearts.
Now that the stitching is done, I'm deciding what kind of finishing work I'll do on it. I'm thinking of turning this into a cube. I've heard of a no-sew method that I'm eager to try. If I finish it that way, I'll post the results here.
