I stitched this ornament/door knocker for my oldest niece. She is expecting a baby at the end of October and I wanted to make a little something special for her.
Since the baby's gender or name has not yet been announced, I decided to simply add the year of birth.
The design is charted for Weeks, DMC and Anchor. I decided to use some DMC variegated floss instead:
| Charted |
I Used |
| Weeks Garnet / DMC 815 / Anchor |
115 Garnet |
| Weeks Holly / DMC 500 / Anchor 683 |
122 Olive Green |
| Weeks Hunter / DMC 367 / Anchor 217 |
101 Spring Green |
I also decided to use some beads instead of making the red scatter stitches. I didn't want red floss showing through the front of the piece, so I stitched the red bead on with white floss. When I did the finishing work, I added an extra layer of batting on the front so that the carried floss would bury itself into the batting and not show through.
The cording is from a spool I had in my Christmas stash. I'd bought it at Wal-Mart in their after Christmas sale. It's finished as a tassel on the bottom of the heart.
