Windsock Ornament

I saw this cute windsock ornament in an online auction and just couldn't resist. I knew I'd be stitching a special ornament for an exchange I'm participating in for an online stitching group. I thought this would be perfect!.

There's nothing really special about stitching the design. The tricky part is in the finishing! I put it together incorrectly the first time, so needed to take it apart and try again. The ornament is first backed with fusible interfacing, then hemmed. Next the ribbon streamers are sewn on. You then form it into a tube. Finally, you sew the ribbon hanger on it.

I like it for the unusual finish. Really cute! But I'm not sure I'll make another one because of how it's finished. There was an awful lot of extra hand sewing and it looks a bit wobbly around the edges to me instead of having the nice clean lines that I like.

I've heard from a couple stitchers that have also finished windsock ornaments. They recommend pressing the fabric at each step of the construction to get the crisp edges. By pressing the folds with a steam iron, the wobbles go away!
