Woodland Christmas Tree

Woodland Christmas Tree by Heart in Hand
This is the first in a series of ornaments I'll be stitching from Heart in Hand's leaflet called Woodland Christmas. There are twelve ornaments in the series. Each is about 25 stitches square. The designs are all somewhat primitive and very cute.

I like them all, so think I'll stitch each of them and finish them in a similar manner. First I sew the completed needlework onto a piece of gingham. Then I sew a matching piece of gingham to the back, creating a little pillow. A piece of ribbon is inserted into the top seam to create the hanger. I stuff the pillow with fiberfill, then hand-sew the opening closed. Finally, I fringe the Fiddler's cloth.

The models on this pattern are all stitched with Sampler Threads, but I don't have those in my stash, so plan to use what I have on hand instead.

These little ornaments stitch up extremely quickly — from start to completed ornament in just a matter of hours!

If you'd like to learn more about various ways to finish ornaments, read the page in Needlework 101 called Ornaments: Finishing Techniques.
