Woodland Christmas Snowman

Woodland Christmas Snowman by Heart in Hand
Here's the sixth in the series of ornaments from Heart in Hand's leaflet called Woodland Christmas.

I chose all regular DMC stranded floss for the snowman, but I did choose different colors than those called for in the chart. Since the Fiddler's Cloth is so light, I chose to use 4 strands of white for the snowman so that he would stand out.

Unfortunately, he still faded into the background when he was finished being stitched. So then I added some backstitching with DMC 775, a very light blue. That helped a bit, but he still faded into the background too much. So finally, I added some DMC 776, a soft yellow, to the entire background. I stitched it with just one strand and a half-cross stitch. Finally the snowman "popped."

I also changed the color of the dots on his scarf, the fringe on the scarf, and his eyes. Then I added some extra backstitching to help his eyes and mouth have definition.

For the background, I found a nice Christmas fabric in the same colors as the stitchery. It's a holly pattern with a partridge nestled among the leaves.

Others in the series:
*   Tree
*   Noel
*   Bird
*   Poinsettia
*   Star
