Dea's chart recommends stitching the entire chart with DMC 321, Christmas Red. But I stitched the little cupid with DMC perle #8 in ecru. The words and arrow are stitched iwth DMC 5284 Dark Gold Metallic. The hearts are stitched with DMC 5270 Red Metallic, and outlined in gold. I added a little heart charm for the tip of the arrow. Lately, I've been inspired by Tina, a gal in one of the online stitching groups I belong to. Tina paints the most spectacular frames for her stitched pieces. She takes an element from the stitched piece and brings it out into the frame either through painting or with a 3-D element. So, taking my cue from Tina, I took a frame I had on hand and spray painted it gold. I then bought some wood turnings in the shape of hearts at my local Wal-Mart. I picked hearts of various sizes, and painted them each in a unique way. I then glued the wood hearts onto the frame using wood glue. Next I used a padded core board and stretched my stitchery over it and inserted it into the frame. Then I went through my stash and came up with a little cupid charm to glue onto the top right corner of the frame.
I also added the little tassels and cord. I simply knotted the cording in a way that looked good to me, draped it across the top of the frame, and hot-glued it into place. Finally, I made a special label for the back of the piece. I typed it up on my computer, printed it on special paper left over from our wedding invitations, cut it out with fancy-edged scissors, and glued it to the back of the frame. I'm pretty happy with the way this valentine turned out. It will be fun experimenting with paint and trinkets to make more fun frames.
