Autumn Cornucopia

Autumn Cornucopia by Twisted Threads
I bought the chart and frame for this cute small pattern when I was on the Stitcher's Retreat back in the spring of 2001. It was on that retreat when I learned to stitch petit point. That's how this piece is stitched, with one strand of floss over one thread on 32ct linen. This image is actually quite a bit bigger than actual size!

Though most of the chart is done in cross-stitch, the grapes are stitched with a colonial knot.

I altered the chart a bit. The chart has a star in each corner which I wasn't fond of. So I moved the cornucopia to the bottom left corner, and added the words "Give Thanks." I found the alphabet in a book in my stash. As you can see, it was a pretty tight fit! I also substituted some DMC variagated floss instead of the Weeks Dye Works called for in the pattern. I'm pleased with the outcome.

If you'd like to learn how to stitch over one, read the page in Needlework 101 called Over One -- Petit Point.

If you'd like to learn how to make a Colonial Knot, read the page in Needlework 101 called Colonial Knots.
