I sort of made it up as I went along as I did the finishing here. I used the same sashing idea for the edges of the piece that I'd used to frame Best Witches and Count Your Blessings. Then I added four tabs at the top so the banner can hang from a wooden dowel. I added a layer of thin batting, then stitched the bottom closed by hand. But the part I'm so happy about is that I did my very first bit of hand quilting on the banding. I used a paint stencil to transfer a design onto the banding. Then I used a running stitch to do the quilting. It's a very simple design, so that's not what I'm shouting about. It's just that my best friend is an awesome quilter, and she teases me about quilting all the time. So now I've taken the plunge and given it a try. The entire banner wouldn't fit on my scanner, but there's enough there to get the idea of what it looks like. This chart calls for Sampler Threads by The Gentle Art, but is also charted for Anchor and DMC. I chose to use DMC floss for my bird. He's such a little cutie! The button and fabric came with the chart. I stitched my name in tiny letters, and it's hidden behind the button!
