Mini Bellpull | ||||||||||

During the first week of March I was able attend my first ever gathering of stitchers and nationally recognized designers and teachers. A Stitcher's Retreat was held at Skamania Lodge in the Columbia River Gorge, just east of Portland, OR. A gorgeous setting. The retreat was organized by Randy Turner (Cecilia's husband) and conducted by the members of the design firm, The Trilogy: I participated in four classes. The third class was by Heart in Hand, and Cecilia introduced a new kit. They asked us not to post images of the retreat kits on the web, so I will respect their wishes. But during the class, we learned a number of stitches (most new to me). I practiced them on a doodle cloth during class, then tonight turned that doodle cloth into a mini bellpull. The stitches include (in order they appear on my bellpull): The way I put the stitches together in the bellpull, the little scrollwork at the top and bottom, and lettering is all my own. I added "A Stitcher's Retreat" and my name and date to use this little piece as a remembrance of my time there. Then I made some cording from the green floss, and used a toothpick as the rod at the top of the bellpull. I give credit to another stitcher at the retreat for the idea of turning the doodle cloth into a mini sampler. She says that when she attends classes, even if she doesn't finish the class project right away, by making the doodle cloth into a sampler, she has a finished project to take home from the class. I thought that was a very nifty idea!
