Gardener Moose

Malcome, the Gardener Moose by The Stitchworks
This is one of the "Malcolm the Moose" charts from The Stitchworks. You can see all the cute Malcolm and Mandy charts on The Stitchworks website.

I have several of these moose charts, including Chris-Moose (December, with Christmas lights in his antlers), Fall-Moose (Malcolm is raking leaves), and Stitching Moose (Mandy is doing some embroidery).

I chose Gardener Moose (May 1998) to stitch for my best friend's birthday gift this year. Virginia loves to play in the dirt and make things grow. I finished it as one of those small pillows where you just tuck the stitching into the pillow border. I made the pillow myself, rather than buying one of the pre-made ones at the stitch shop. I was able to find a good garden/plant print that complimented the stitchery. I added some piping to the pillow, which was a bit of a trick. (I didn't think to take a photo of the finished pillow).

I made the pillow just part of her gift. I also added a flower urn, some seeds, gloves and gardening tools. I even included a small plastic pail and shovel for the little boy that Virginia is nanny to.
