Tassel with Multiple Wraps for the Collar

Tassel with Multiple Wraps for the Collar
The purpose of this tassel technique is to create another type of visual interest to the tassel collar. In this case, a thread is tied tightly at the top of the collar. The collar is divided into three equal sections. Each section is wrapped with a contrasting color of fiber. Then the sections are twisted into the desired shape. Finally the sections are recombined and a thread is tied tightly at the bottom of the collar

I first used a collar of brown floss above and below the wrapped collar to make the collars nice and tight. Then I covered the floss collars with the brown yarn. Where the wraps didn't wrap evenly, I used a needle to manipulate the wraps so they looked more even. I decided to twist/braid the wraps before adding the second collar. The dimensions are correct per instructions, but the tassel looks out of proportion to me. If I were to make another tassel like this, I would make a longer skirt.

This tassel is made of a 4-ply variegated yarn. The collar is a 4-ply solid brown yarn. It is an eight inch tassel with a 2-1/2 inch collar.
