Rose Vertical Pincushion

Rose Vertical Pincushion by Laura Kramer Doyle
Isn't this just the prettiest tapestry-like design? I fell in love with it when I first saw it in The Stitchery catalog. Then when I saw the chart and the Sudberry House base kit (sold separately) at my local needlework shop, I had to buy them.

This pincushion stays by my sewing machines in my Studio. It's all Cameo, if ever a chart was. The amazing thing is that it is much bigger than you might imagine. When I first saw the photo, I thought it was just a three or four inch spool. But the finished item is actually 6-1/2 inches tall, with a 3-1/2 inch diameter.

The model is stitched on a white fabric, but I chose a light pink instead (though it doesn't show up real well in this image). The Sudberry House spool is a deep, dark wood. Unfortunately, it doesn't show up all that well in my photo, either. The chart actually has two different patterns. The one I chose not to stitch (yet!) is a cute sewing basket, overflowing with fabric, floss, pins, scissors, etc.

This is the first time I finished a project in this way. The directions for finishing that came with the spool were pretty well written and not hard to follow. I just had to be sure to stuff the tube really well so that my pincushion was nice and firm without oddball lumps and bumps.
