Welcome

Welcome for Habitat for Humanity by Emie Bishop
As part of our Outreach, my local EGA chapter stitches welcome samplers for the recipients of new houses from Habitat for Humanity. One of the members of our group had bought all the supplies for this sampler, but was not going to be able to stitch it. So she supplied the materials, and I supplied my time and talent. This is the finished product.

The image here does not do this piece justice. It turned out very, very pretty, with the Japan Gold thread and the pearl beads offset by the Hardanger motifs, the filagree and the gold frame. I was very pleased with this project.

Better yet, I met the woman who received the sampler. As each house is dedicated, the Habitat folks have a little ceremony. Part of the ceremony is presenting the sampler to the new homeowners. I was able to be the presenter to one of the houses in June, 2001. The neighbor of the new home had received this sampler that I stitched. She has it displayed in her living room. What a gift it was to me to see how happy the new homeowner was!
