Brazilian Embroidery
Last updated December 31, 2005

Brazilian embroidery is an elegant Victorian expression in three dimensional stitchery. The thread is 100% rayon, which looks like silk, having a satiny, lustrous finish. It's washable and retains it's luster after many washings.

The rayon thread may be used for a wide variety of projects, including embroidery, cross-stitch, needlepoint, smocking and tassels. It compliments ribbon embroidery and candlewicking beautifully.

I took a workshop on Brazilian Embroidery for an EGA weekend. I am the proud owner of a chatelaine which came out lovely. It is also wonderful for decorating denim shirts, baby items, handkerchiefs (anyone still use these?), etc. I think if you could do SRE on it, you can change it to BE. there are still some wonderful books out there and Nordic Needle has some supplies too (haven't checked for books). I love the technique, but with the CTS, I cannot pull the needle through the bullions   :-(
I took a workshop and had to put it down, but might try it with my needle grabber rubber disk thingy  :D
